INTEGRATED LEARNING PROJECTS

YEA!Days and YES! Days

Young Escapades in Arts / Young Escapades in Arts and Science
See Artist Bios here
Best for elementary through 6th grades
YEA!Days and YES!Days are fun creativity labs that bring theme-based learning triads into the schools. Professional writers, artists, and if you wish, a science specialist, enrich and support classroom learning goals with labs linked to educational standards in their area of expertise. Students practice divergent thinking (generating many unique ideas) and then convergent thinking (combining those ideas into the best results) while forming new memory pathways (brain connections) to the topic at hand. Students investigate connections between writing and its correlating disciplines.
What does a YEA!Day look like?
-- A large group storytelling assembly starts the day and works as a theme for the workshops that follow, 30 minutes
--Classrooms rotate between 3 workshops, each one hour with 5 minutes "passing" time. The three escapades are
  • dance or drama or music or science
  • visual arts
  • creative writing
--The day culminates in a large group informance by participants, 40-45 minutes
-- Teachers receive the lesson plan from each visiting specialist
Cost: $800
